Why We are Baptists
As a Baptist church, Grace holds to the historic distinctives of the Baptist denomination through the ages. And we are Baptists because we believe that these distinctives are biblical distintives.
Christ is the Head of the Church
"The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the church, in whom, by the appointment of the Father, all power for the calling, institution, order or government of the church, is invested in a supreme and sovereign manner." - 1689 London Baptist Confession
Christ is the head of the local church in whom all power and authority rests. Therefore everything that the church does ought to come from the direction of her Lord. In all her endevaors the church seeks to please Him and give Him glory.
Therefore, we hold His word, the Holy Bible, to be the ultimate standard for all faith and practice above any creed or confession. "The rule of this knowledge, faith, and obedience, concerning the worship of God, in which is contained the whole duty of man, is only the word of God contained in the holy Scriptures; in which is plainly recorded whatsoever is needful for us to know, believe, and practice; which are the only rule of holiness and obedience for all saints, at all times, in all places to be observed." - 1646 London Baptist Confession
